The African Diaspora Foundation's Benefit Concert

A Portal To Peace In South Africa

Peace never sounded so good. On the evening of May 30, 2003 , right around 7:00pm the roof of the Agape Spiritual Center began to bounce with soulful singing, eloquent lecture, inspirational dance, and soul lifting jazz. It was a night of entertainment helping a cause of peace. The African Diaspora Foundation (ADF) hosted this benefit concert to raise funds for a Peace Education Conference in South Africa from June 23-27, 2003 .

What a success it was. Looking out into the crowd that gathered, musician Stevie Wonder was to be seen along with delegates from the Nigerian Consulate of Washington D.C. and South African Consulate of Los Angeles who came in dignity and good will. Numerous clergymen and representatives from various organizations turned out to support what we, their co-laborers, were doing for the cause of peace. Besides raising funds and entertaining, a message was broadcast that Africa is reaching across its surrounding seas to bring back its children to do what can only be done together--bringing peace, progress and posterity from her lands.

After nailing the roof of the Agape Center back to its base, we turn to our next task at hand which is the Peace Education Conference. Our goal is to confer with government officials, activists, clergymen and citizens to map out the steps for installing a peace education center in Johannesburg . The transition from apartheid to democracy did not bring about the anticipated reduction in violence in South Africa . Now is the time to work together to understand the roots and dynamics of the violence to cultivate strategies through education to bring about a new era of peace.

ADF is committed to develop a coalition of national and international leaders and organizations to address critical issues concerning peace, nonviolence, and reconciliation in Africa . As a non-profit organization, ADF has proposed in partnership with the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA), to develop peace education centers in Los Angeles and in Africa offering a curriculum aimed at overcoming issues that threaten survival in countries affected by conflict. ADF's plan is that this model program will become an international force in preparing educators for the key task of making peace, nonviolence and reconciliation a working reality.

Please take a moment and decide to stand with us on this movement towards better days in Africa . Our mission can not be accomplished without your donation. Your generosity will go towards organizing meetings and conferences, building peace centers, recruiting the necessary support of governmental decision-makers, developing and implement revolutionary curricula and ultimately to changing Africa to a peaceful and progressive land. Thank you in advance.
